Craven Celebrates International Women’s Day!
This International Women’s Day, we took the time to raise our voice for the female employees here at Craven and to celebrate their incredible work.
Generally speaking, the Manufacturing Industry tends to be male-dominated. However, this hasn’t stopped Louise Chambers who joined Craven as our Finance Manager. This 8th of March, she took some time to speak to us about life at Craven and being a woman in the Manufacturing World.
Let’s find out what Louise had to say…
What does a typical day at Craven look like for you?
Extremely busy! The first job of each day is to run invoices for all orders that were dispatched the day before. After that, my day is no longer typical and varies a lot! I make sure all outgoing payments are made on time as well as chasing payments that are due to us. Other main tasks include bank reconciliations and management accounts.
What motivates you at work?
The primary motivator I find is working towards achieving numerous goals within our department. Things such as improving processes, implementing cost-saving ideas and maintaining supplier relationships. I am motivated by seeing my department run smoothly and therefore assisting Craven’s continuous growth.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
The day serves as a reminder to take a minute away from the busy day-to-day and put things into perspective.
What has been your experience as a woman working in a male-dominated industry?
My experience has been very positive. The industry itself is particularly male-dominated but that is not reflected in the operations at Craven. The balance between males and females in the team is not heavily one-sided and we have numerous women working on our shop floor, which is possibly less common in the manufacturing industry.
What advice would you give to women starting out work in the manufacturing industry?
I would tell anybody getting started not to worry about any preconceived ideas of the manufacturing industry. The characteristics of a male-dominated industry are often more of a stigma than it is the reality.
We would like to say a big thank you to Louise for her great insights into working at Craven and the Manufacturing Industry! We wish everyone a very Happy International Women’s Day 🎊
